Composer Bio + Capabilities

Posted by FinnMK - November 22nd, 2013

Hi NG!

I'm a composer based in Ottawa, Canada. I'm currently studying at Carleton University doing a BMus. I'm always looking for interesting projects so feel free to message me if you need some music!

My Soundcloud:

If videos are more your thing, then check out my YouTube page:
http://www.youtube.com/user/FinnMertinsKirkwood

Capabilities:
I currently record and create in my basement studio which is equipped with a drum kit, a stage piano, guitar, bass, and some of my toys including a First Nations war drum, a West Ghanaian gankogui, a tambourine and a kalimba. I use MixCraft 6 with the EastWest Platinum sound library for most of my work and blend virtual instruments with recorded ones. I have a network of skilled musicians I can call upon to record parts depending on the work, including strings, saxophone, brass, piano, and guitar players, as well as vocalists.

Experience:
I have worked on a few video game scores with independent developers in the past, listed here:
- Creeper World III: Arc Eternal (Knuckle Cracker, Inc.)
- Diggy: Mystery of the Earth's Center (Vogd)
- Curve Fever 2 (Geert and the Curve Fever team)

As well as film scores:
- The Daily Paper (Russell Wee)

I'm also a member of the band Crimsonics, you can check out our music here:

Hey man, why the inactivity? I've been listening to all of your music ever since you started! I thought one of the reasons you might've stopped composing for newgrounds was because you had thought nobody wants to hear your stuff, and if this is the case, we want to hear it! Another reason might be, obviously, because of your school work :/

Anyways, It's great to hear that your music is mostly, if not all real instruments, and not all just electronic. You just can't get the same feel with electronic instruments. Anyways, I'm also glad to see that you're open to make music for other people. I think I'll let other people know about you too :)

One last thing, you don't need to answer this if you don't want to, do you make music for your living, or purely for the pleasure of listening to?

(Also, glad to see another Canadian artist that gives a perfect ring to a song c: )

Thanks!

Hey Sam,

Wow, great to hear you like my music so much! That means a lot. Well fear not, it's not out of disinterest that I haven't been posting recently. I haven't been writing originals lately because I'm finishing up work on some game and film scores that have had me super-occupied - that's also why I haven't been advertising in the collab portal or anything. They'll be all finished in a few weeks, and then I'm working with a new composer collective to create original music for video games. Once my current projects are done (and school is all finished in a few weeks) I'll be writing some more originals and posting.

Currently because I'm a student I'm not writing music for a living, but I'm hoping that once I graduate I will be. I've been getting experience working freelance and I've made some valuable contacts in various companies so I'm going to see what comes of them when I'm done school (one more year to go!). Thanks again for the support and yes, woo, Canada, yup, awesome.

*update* Just for you Sam, I posted a new piece that's been sitting in my archives. Hope you enjoy Darkwave!
